I have a 1939 BDH with no oil pressure

I am new here as of today and bought my first Cletrac last week. Fired it up yesterday and it has no oil flow what so ever. I removed the filter assembly,oiled the engine and when I started the engine back up I had no oil coming from the pressure line that feeds the filters. My real question is does the BDH have a known weakness or do I just pull the pump? Thanks,Jeff

No known weakness there to my knowledge. Possibly there is a screen on a plate on the bottom of the oil pan surrounding the oil pickup, it could possibly be plugged with sludge. A friend of mine wiped out an engine this way. Dipstick had oil, no oil psi gauge... I do have another old Hercules gas engine that has oil psi problems, and I think the pump is just shot and won't pick it up but once primed and its ran once a month its fine.

A lot of the DJXD engines have low oil pressure after warming up, but all you need is 5 psi to circulate the oil. There should, however, still be flow from the tube to the gauge.

I would pull the pan. The last one I worked on had a screen. I would also rig up a "bearing leak detector" and check out why there is low (no) oil pressure.

I think the low oil psi goes for all Hercules engines. I know all my diesels have super oil psi when cold but go down to 10 or so.
