AD-2 living on as an AG6

Hello all,

I just bought an A (originally a 1938 AD-2) with a 6 cylinder gas engine. It has a homemade(?), yet functional, hydraulic blade. It runs well but has a couple of small issues that I need to tidy up.

I've cleaned the gas tank and reworked the fuel lines, adding a new see-through fuel filter along the way. I don't see a mechanical fuel pump and was wondering if a small pump was advisable?
I'm using 5/16" hose but the brand new fuel sediment bowl / shutoff unit that I bought has a very small outlet (supply) hole.

I found this online: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191212148370   It says 3-6psi.
I don't mind if things are not strictly original so long as I'm not making irreversible changes.

What do you think?  Is there a need for it?  I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along...

Kim, is your carburetor below the bottom of your fuel tank? If so you shouldn't need a fuel pump unless going up steep hills with a low fuel level in the tank. I wouldn't bother with a fuel pump if you don't need it. I doubt that motorcycle pump would supply enough gasoline under a high load and would cause a bad restriction in your line causing the engine to run lean and stumble.

How small is the outlet on your sediment bowl? I don't think I would go smaller than 5/16" on anything in the fuel system.

Any idea what became of the original engine from the AD-2. It would have been a Buda 4 cyl diesel. I'm looking for one for parts.

No, I don't have any info about the original Buda - sorry.

As for the fuel line... it's 5/16" ID which is larger than the 1/4" OD copper tubing it replaced. I'll see how things go, I don't think the HGs or OC3s have a fuel pump.

Correct, HG's & OC-3's didn't have fuel pumps, but the early OC-4's with the IXB-3 4 cylinder engines did.

I'm sure the AG-6 didn't have a quarter inch line. Someone must have put that small line on there. It would probably be big enough most of the time, but you have to account for debris and stuff that could get caught in a small line.

No, they had a mechanical pump mounted right on the engine. I've seen some where people put their own electric pump on them. The fuel tank is under the seat.

No, I meant the fuel tank was under the seat Doug. That's why they needed a pump.
