What model winch was on the bgs?

What model winch was on the bgs? I was told it was the model e is this right? Will the newer winchs fit? I saw a model e-24 that was chain driven will this work on a bgs? Were they chain driven? Thanks for the help.

I have a 1949 BGH with the Carco E-24 winch.  I bought it from Landis Zimmerman.  I'd given him a call to see what he had and he had one from the model that replaced the BG (OC-?).  It bolted right up since the rear castings apparently didn't change between the two models.  You can see it in the photo section.  Sure is nice to have one and it seems to take a lot of the nose heaviness from the Heil blade away.  If you get one, make sure you install the winch input shaft bearing into the transmission BEFORE you attempt to mount the winch.  I left it on the shaft and we tried to do it as the winch was brought up to the rear wall of the housing.  Bad move - ended up unseating the rear bearing that's inside the winch.  Had to disassemble and reseat both.

I have a DGH with carco model F winch.  There is a special adapter casting
between the winch and the tractor.  This casting contains the winch input shaft and is matched to each particular tractor.  You therefore need a winch from a BG , BD or OC 12.  Winches from other makes won't fit.

Then there are the oil field winches - the most popular one made by J.F. Britton in Erie and Bradford Pa. These were high speed winches designed for pulling sucker rods and tubing in oil wells.

Bob Burkhouse on here knows them, and I believe has at least one of them.

I have a few of those winches Blake is talking about. The only problem with these winches for teaming/dragging is the cable comes out in the bottom. You don't get much pull down on the tractor. But they sure are powerful.
