So far i've had a '48 Ferguson a '67 David Brown and now a '57 OC-4. None of the air cleaners on these tractors were cleaned. My Ferguson was kinda nasty. The Divid Brown was so bad that I had to trash the whole thing and modify one off a 1200 to fit my 990. And now I pulled the one off the OC-4 and it had two inches of sludge in the bottom of it. Don't these people know that clean oil and air is the life of an engine? I just had to vent. This starting to become a pet-peave for me.

yes them air filters are never serviced. i find that if you take the air filter with the wire mess to an engine rebuilding place and get them to hot tank the filter. the wire mess will come out very clean.

I was just going to let the one off the OC-4 sit in a bucket of gas over-night. I used a bucket of gas and a brush to clean out the cup and peices. It did a pretty good job of cleaning it up. I wish I had one of those parts washers. I saw someone selling them at a swap meet that I go to every year. I have a couple of machine shops around here. I might try and see if any of them have one.

also what works good is a parts washer sprayer that uses air to blow and spray the parts with cleaner. they work really well and cheap to buy. just put the hose is a gallon jug of cleaner and spray away, then use the blow nozzle to remove the nasty dirt.
