I'm in the midst of putting my oc-3 back together, and I came across the fact that the left side track has 29 links and the right has 30. I'm assuming that they should both be 30, but would it matter if I cut the right side down to 29 so they would both be the same?? :?: any thoughts??
Thank You

I am guessing here - since the drive speed is determined by the rear axle, it should not affect the tracking of the machine, but before cutting down the right side, I would check the tensioner on the left side - with the track installed.  Is it at or near the max? You might be better off buying an extra link than cutting one out of the good side.

Others here might be able to confirm the correct number of links.  A great source is to call Landis Zimmerman (advertiser).

the tensioner is at the min. adjustment. this is where  I noticed the difference. I rebuilt the tensioner, now i'm ready to put it back, after I decide what to do with the track.
thanks for the info.

Tracks should be 30 links on HG's & OC3's...

Yeah, I meant minimum - there I go thinking backwards again!

The one item omitted seems to be whether the link has been left out because the tracks are shot.
If the undercarriage has used all adjustment with the correct number of track links, shortening the tracks might be a short term fix, but if you intend to use it for work rather than just parading, the lengthened track links will cause rapid wear of the drive sprocket teeth, and other woes.
Your decision on what to do depends on the depth of your pockets, future use and present condition of the rest of the undercarriage.

There was an excellent article on track in the last issue of oliver heritage written by Landis.  Would help you a lot as it gives measurements for new tracks and maximum wear etc... also talks about shortened tracks.  To get a copy visit oliverinformation.com. Sam

They have articles on cletrac and oliver crawlers in every issue
I live in England, got interested in Cletrac's when I brought an Oliver BD in 2001, I now have an Oliver BD a Cletrac BDH and another BDH for parts and have just brought a 1919 model H. I also have a british built Track Marshall 90.  Always keen to hear from fellow collectors.
