'46? HG 68 painted green or orange?

Have an HG 68 with no serial number. Engine block dated 2 15 46. The tractor is green, but the inside of the axel housing is orange. All the parts I have seen so far have had orange underneath the green. I read another post that said '46 was a transition year from orange to green. Does anyone have an idea if the tractor was orange or green when new? Trying to justify the decision of color for restoration. Thanks

I think the orange you see inside the components is a dull redish color and is a prime. The stock orange is bright. Conversations in a prior thread of mine discusses this at length.  By the way, the stock Oliver orange is just a VERY tiny bit redder than the Case orange (from Tractor Supply) that I used.

I chose the orange because I hate the Oliver green - and it's easier to find in the woods.

look closely inside the frame rails in front of the bellhousing and see what color that you find,that is a place that usually did not get much paint when repainted . if you want to be original use the color of the first layer of paint .
