Hood bolts are supposed to be?

I'm just about wrapping up the HG restoration.  I had to take the generator in to have the armmature rebuilt so I'm just doing some of the little things to finish up.

All the Cletrac/Olivers I have use hex head bolts at the front of the hood to attach it to the radiator housing and hold the grille on.  This doesn't seem quite right as the holes are very close to the ribs on the hood and it just doesn't seem like what should have been there.   A wrench or the spinning hex is bound to do some major scratching of my new paint job.  I'm tempted to use some 5/16 stove bolts, but does anyone know what the REAL deal was?

As soon as I get the bolts and the generator back on, I'll take it for a real spin and post some photos.

Thanks, Mike

My OC-3 had a lot of roundheaded bolts (ordinary threadscrew) to hold the hood to the grill and radiator. Though I don't remember exactly but I unscrewed a lot of them when I lifted the hood of.
I found it difficulty to unscrew them because of the location of the nuts, I'm gonig to use special "Weld nuts?" when putting the hood back on.

Mike,
I think they were originally 5/16 stovebolts. That is what I used on my General. Congrats on finishing up the restoration. You've done a fine job.

Thanks guys, that's what I decided to use.  They look just fine.  I put a small black nylon washer under them to keep from tearing up the paint.

I got my decals from Zimmerman and put them on today.....nice stuff.  I hope to get the generator back tomorrow.  They think the field windings might also be toast, and that might cause another delay.

Thanks for the help!
