Choke for General GG

Hello All,
We are restoring a General with crank start. There is a spring on the carb that hold the butterfly open. Was there something to close the choke when cranking? I know that some tractors have a wire or rod to the front where you can reach it when cranking.

A description or picture would be great. Thanks in advance.

I can't say that I have ever saw a choke rod on a hand start model that I was sure was an original. But they must have had something similar to what you described. I have seen a few home made choke rods on hand starts that are exactly like what you describe, and probobly are similar to original. Fabricate a piece of heavy wire or 1/8"-3/16" steel rod to a length just short of the grill (including a finger loop). You can hang it with a small wiring harness hanger from one of the middle two side panel screws.
