Has anybody ran a rotary mower with a oliver cletrac? How do you run the pto and the transmission too?

What i mean is, do you just dump the clutch and go. What are the steps you go through to take the stress off the clutch when ingaugeing the pto.

There is no special procedure to run a rotary mower with a Cletrac other than recommending that you get an overrunning clutch to put on your pto between the tractor and the mower. This prevents the centrifugal force of the moving blades from trying to move your tractor forward after you push the clutch in, since the pto is not live. It could be a safety issue since the rotating force of the mower may make you unable to stop the tractor, allowing you to run into something or go over a hill. Plus it takes a lot of strain off your pto shaft, transmission and brakes.

When I start off it feels like a lot of stress on the clutch. It is a 5 foot rotary mower. When I engauge the pto with out it in gear it takes of easy.  Will the over run clutch take any stress off the clutch when in gear when taking off.  A little info: Bought the OC 4 in March Paid $2200. Everything works good. Made up my own oil gun(read up on it on the forum). Going to haul manure, mow, plow and work ground with it. This is a good forum have learn alot.

I have been reading about the overrunning clutch. If I unstand it right, I should be able to have the transmission in netural and start the pto. Then push in the clutch and wait for the drive shaft to stop moving and put it into the gear I want without slowing the pto shaft that much. And proceed on with mowing.

One question: Can I back up and mow something in a coner of a fence?

I thought I posted this. Me I would idle the tractor down and engage the PTO. Then as the engine tried to drive the mower, push in on the clutch so you don't stall the engine then  with the  mower still turning because of th =e over running clutch give the engine a little more throttle and release the clutch again Yes you can mow  in reverse. Where are you in Ohio? Now you know why people look for tractors with "live power take off. Believe me I started driving a John Beere over 60 years ago with no live PTO. It works. Now if like the crawler idead, find an OC-6 They have a good simple live PTO. My neighbor used to chop (as we call it) along the river with an HG. He bought an OC 6 piece of cake now. More questions. Also make sure you drive shaft can telescope too.

John, I'm near strasburg, ohio. I read the profile on the OC 6. I see it has live pto. It has a clutch for the pto. And a live power form the crank. I'm using the crawler to mow my steep parts of the hill behind my house and a WD 45 to mow the level parts. And use the crawler to mow the thorn bushes. Yes the mower has a telescope pto. I just brought it at a big sale in MT Hope, OHio for $50.00.  It had new tires and four spare new blades.
