ok. I am trying to get this thing running. I cleaned the magneto up and now have spark. Have timed it to the spark mark on the flywheel. Turns over fine. Starts up with ether and runs for about 2 seconds.
Took the carb apart and cleaned it all up and made up a new gasket. It still will not run. So !!!
1) What should the compression pressure be in psi.
2) What kind of carb model does it have (I know it's a Marvel-Schebler).
3) What should the base carb screw settings be for the idle and high speed (how many turns from bottom).
4) What size are those sparkplugs and what kind of thread (7/8" ?). [I need to make up or buy a sparkplug pressure guage adapter for this thing] {Any suggestions}.
Are these IXK engines any good. My experience as a hobbiest with CLETRAC/OLIVER is very mininimal.
Its an HG68.
Can you help ? My son and I are dying to get this thing running.

Sounds like fuel is not reaching intake...when it is not primed it takes quite awhile to reach intake, since it is an updraft carb. So....keep on crankin'! The general carb. settings are 1 1/2 turns out from bottom. You can then fine tune it once it is warmed up. As far as the compression tester adapter goes - fabricate one from an old spark plug.
Good luck and keep us posted.

take the top off the carb, remove the main jet 3\8 or 7\16 deep socket dont remember off hand, there is a jet under that one, it takes a long thin screwdriver, (best bet is to grind one to fit) take it out, and then you might have a small brass screw on the outside bottom remove it and then just use carb cleanner and air to get all the dirt out. if you cant get the jet out you can try to flush it out but the dirt may just lay in the bottom and pulg it latter hope that this made sence and helped

Thanks for the info. I had that main jet out but did not know that there was a jet under it also. I will take it apart again.
Does NAPA sell a gasket or rebuild kit for this carb. Also does anyone know the actual carb model number (Marvel-Schebler).
