Need help i am a new member and have bought what i was told a 1950 HG

Aim new to this crawler tractor business .I have bought a tractor with a loader and 4cyl herk. Tractor I was told it is a 1950 ,only numbers i can find are on the loader.  HGR  #49-992    I have looked on the internet at hundreds of pictures and have not found the main thing that is different. The seat is in cased in very heavy cast steel like weight sides and back weight has oliver cast in it and seat is not like most tractor seats.  if it will help i will try to post a picture in a few days.  Any other ways to id before i start I start ordering manuals.    thanks for any help    you can e-mail me also at edsracing@edsmachine.com and if necessary i will give a phone #  ed-trackman

Hi Ed , Welcome to the forum . If you are able to Post  some Photos ,it would help to ID the model of the machine .
The weight sound like counter weght ,which would be a part of the loader setup .

When you say the seat is cased in heavy steel,, it sounds like you have a counterweight (cast iron) behind the seat

That is a Ware loader - an early one. I think I may have a leaflet for it. But oftentimes with these machines being 50+ years old owners have made their own adaptions and changes, sometimes lifting parts from other machines, if they will do a job. By the sounds of it, your seat arrangement is non-standard in some way. Rear weights from OC4s for example have OLIVER cast in them, most I have seen from HGs and OC3s don't.
Casting date is behind where the mag sits on the engine block. Serial number would be on a plate on the bellhousing (right hand side at about 2 o'clock) but they are often lost. Earlier models had serial tag on rear, right of mainframe.
The engine tag will tell you whether its an IXK or an IXB, but those are missing too, from time to time.

Those 4 cylinder engines have the model and the engine serial number stamped in the block at the top on a flat machined area on the side opposite the manifold side. If not it has a replacement block.
