Having trouble with my OC 3. Seems like the magneto is creating an advanced and possibly intermitent spark condition. I,ve double checked the govenor to cam gear timing, lined up the rotor to # 1, and installed the mag at flywheel SPK. Points look good, gap is set, cap is clean. Before I new any better I was running resistor spark plugs. An autolight customer rep said this would eventually cause problems with the mag. Before I buy a new mag are there any ideas? If I switch out condensers is there anything  special  or can I take one from my jeep and try it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I ran into a similar problem on an OC 4. Engine would start and run but would not move the tractor, it had zip for power. I put a condenser in it fron my 350 Chev and it came back to life! I then order the proper condenser for it as the wrong size will burn points faster.

When you set the timing, did you set it so the points were just opening at the "spark" mark? The best way is with a thin piece of cellephane between the points - like cigarette wrapper - set it so the points are opening so you can just start pulling the paper out. Also be sure you are not setting it with the mag in impulse mode. Turn the engine past TDC on #1 so the mag impulse clicks - then back it up just past the spark mark, then ahead to the spark mark to take up the slack in the gears.

Replacing the condensor (NAPA # WI200) fixed the intermittent spark problem. Guess I always thought condensors went completely bad when they went but heres proof that they don't. Solved the advanced timing problem by changing the governor gear to cam gear timing by 2 teeth. The center punch marks don't line  up now but I had to get the mag drive positioned  to allow the mag  to fire on SPK. Can't  figure why this could be unless not all of these governor or cam gears are marked the same and one of mine was once changed. Ether way it's running pretty good now and I can quit pulling my hair out on this one, I hope.
