OC-3 frame welding

Hi
another newbe to this great site.My farther bought a 1952 OC-3 when it was new.It has the stub style frame (that is broken )and I have bought a bunch of parts and in it there was a new style frame that had a crack in it that i have had welded. The question for today is should i use this frame or should i look for a better one.

Where is the crack ? If you are not planning to work the tractor hard ,welding will probably hold up .

Walter has you started in the right direction. What welding rod were you planning on using (tensile strength wise)and is this crack so located that on the inside of the frame nothing covers it and a reinforcement can be added

I had a local welding shop do the jod about 4 years ago and it was cracked just in front of where the draw bar support is attached to the frame. I would gues that this tractor was used for alot of pulling.As for what i will be using it for it has an anderson blade and loaderon it but i will using it for personal use not for a buisness.I can send you some pictures if it will help.

I surmise from your description that the crack is just ahead of the foot rests.  If so, there is plenty of room of fishplate the frame on the outside and replace the foot rests,(with longer bolts).
