Hi Folks,

My brother and I have a recently aquired OC3-31 that is complete and runs - sometimes.  We're fairly certain it is a spark problem.

My question is does anyone know of a good resource to help identify which magneto we have?  The tag is missing, but I'm pretty sure from looking at pictures that it is a Wico XH. But I've come across different references as to the four digit number that should follow. And the couple of parts sources I've managed to find are sort of vague as to application. One even shows the rotor in ours to be for a Caterpillar application. Any recommendations?

We've redone several old Fords and John Deeres, but this is the first magneto we've fooled with. Zimmerman's has been very helpful in the past, but it's hard to ask for parts when you don't know what you have.

Thanks,

Craig

OC3's used Wico XH 1113 magnetos.  The points should match with NAPA parts number S4-440 and the Condensor with NAPA parts number S4-188.

If your condensor isn't too weak, just cleaning the contacts on the points should give you better spark.  Make sure they are clean and dry.  The least bit of corrosion or moisture/oil will spoil your spark.  Points set at .015 to .017.  Impulse set to trip at SPK on the fly wheel.

Also a magneto needs to have a working magnet. A weak magnet can be re-magnetized.   Mike Shanley, Woodbury MN
