OC3 valve springs

Hello,

 First time to post. I have an OC3 with the IBX3 I just had the mag rebuilt and I rebuilt the carb myself. I was having a problem loosing power after about 15-20 min. of running, so I started in on her. I now have the head off and I am attempting to lap in the valves. I am having a very hard time removing the valve springs. And I can not find a spring compressor other than a small engine tool that seems to be the right tool? Does anyone have any idea of the proper way of removing the springs. Or know where I can get the proper tool. Any help at this time will be great.

I always use a small pry bar . They are a fairly weak spring .

Thanks Walter but I ended up renting a clap style commpressor that worked pretty good. I have got all back together and what a differance, I put the bucket down against the base of a big ol tree and she did not back down. I can spin the tracks no problem. Iplan on getting her warmed up and rechecking the tappet clearance. Right now I am trying to find a muffler that will fit this without having to open the the hole in the lid. Also not sure what oil fillter to get I read some old stuff on here and someone mentioned a tube or pipe that goes up in the fillter and I don't have that. Just a Nappa 1105 with no tube.

There should be a tube with a small opening on the top end ,many of them got loose and were thrown away with the filter. You can use the same mason jar thread filter as Oliver wheel tractors used .

I tried mufflers above the hood, but no go - the support pipe would not handle the shaking.

So built one to fit under the hood - sort of like the ones fitted to the agricultural models originally. 1/16 steel plate welded into a hollow rectangular box about 6 x 8 x 5" deep.

Heavy exhaust pipe to fit onto the manifold, up thru the muffler to above the hood. Extension pipe on top. Pipe hole has to be near the side of the muffler to clear the side and rounded top of the hood.

Pipe cut in two half way through the muffler, plugged solid, and welded back together. 40 or 50 3/16 holes drilled through the pipe below and above the weld (inside the muffler) for exhaust gasses to blow into the muffler then back into and up the exhaust pipe.

Pipe welded into the muffler and installed.

15 years, probably 1000 hours, still going strong.
