final drive

I'm removing a final drive houseing and every thing inside as one unit from a Hg to a oc3 but i run upon a sandbar the bolts in the oc3 rearend houseing are larger than the ones in the Hg the bolt patteren are the same can i redrill the holes in the housing and make it fit i did this because i didn't want to change the bearings and things to save some time and work besides that i dont have a bearing puller the hub is in better condition off of the Hg i'll do any thing to save time and specialy a littel work does some one out there know about these things surely there some old salts out there that has run upon a sand bar like this too thanks HH

My HG final drive and OC3 final drive measure slightly different from transmission surface to cover plate surface.  The ourboard end of the axle was supported in a different way also.  I don't know if all HGs are like my parts or not.

Thanks Dave for your information the points you said mine measures the same the only thing i find different are the bolts in the transmission housing in the oc3 are larger than the ones in the Hg you said the outboard mounting of the shaft were different in what way mine are the same as near as i can tell as of now thanks HH

Since yours measure the same your coverplates may be the same.  On my OC3, the bearing is held by a bolt on cap.  The HG has a raised section in the large cover but the whole cover needs to come off to remove an axle.  Axles are different because of different outside bearings.

thanks Dave both of mine has the bolt on caps with shims as they wear remove a shim i guess i'm going to tear into it a bit more i'll let you know how it comes out thanks glad to get the information HH
