Stuck transaxle on HG

Hey Fellas,
I'm new to the board and new to Cletrac ownership. I purchased two crawlers last weekend, one HG & one OC-3, I think?  I believe that this is the case, one has a bolt together idler and the track rides between the rim lips, the other tractor has an idler with holes and the track rides on the outside of the rime lips.  
My trouble is with the HG, it had to be drug onto the trailer. The shift lever moves in circles, I'm guessing that the fork lever in the case is broke.  I pulled the PTO case off, put a pipe wrench on the drive shaft and got it to turn with the clutch disengauged.  I was going to take off the shifter housing on the side of the transaxle but was sure if it would accomplish anything.  I've ordered the manuals but am in a bit of hurry to unload these off my friend's trailer (stuck one is on the back). I really don't want to drag it off.

If you were up here in the north, I'd suggest that it might be frozen water in the trans, differential, or final drives - like mine was. But since you're from Lousiaina, I guess we have to rule that out.  

My shift lever swivels around, but shifts. You might have the transmission locked in gear and the lever is just rotating in its fittings. It has a ball fitting.

Kind of a tough call without disassembling. Can't get the shift lever side cover off of mine without loosening and rotating, or removing the transaxle from the frame.

If you have a friend with a big backhoe, perhaps he could lift it off the trailer.

the shifter is suppose to rotate freely. the end of the shifter could be broken but not likely. remove the lock ring and pull the shift lever out . with a lot of wear the trans. could be in two grears at once .get the shifting dogs lined up and that should be neutral. use a long heavy screwdriver to move them if necessary. if this crawler has been sitting a long time the tracks and rollers could be rusted enough to keep it from rolling . was there water in the trans. when you pulled the pto off? if there was ,chances are the final drives are also full of water which could have caused them to lock up.

Thanks for the ideas.  There was in fact, water in the differential when I removed the PTO (and about a 1/2" of red clay plus a 5/8" nut?). I'll try to drain the final drives tomorrow. I bet those manuals will come in handy when they arrive.
