Hello everyone,

I bought a BGSH with a heil blade manual angle and tilt on it. I have some questions about the blade set up. Most A, B, and D series machine i have seen have the hydralic up mounted up front of the radiator bolted to the main frame that run off the front of the tractor. The one i purchased has the same style heil blade as the ones with the pump in front the radiator. Heres the kicker mine has the pump on the back of the machine. Bolts in the same place as the Pto or belt pully would go. Also has a lever kinda back torward the seat that you can disengauge the pump say if you were plowing or pulling a implament to take the extra load off the engine. What i was wondering is the a rare option or what. Did they only make that set up a few years....Cletrac cast in the raditor.....but has oliver serial tag. The pump has a leak on it and i wonderin about finding someone to fix it in the future or finding parts for that style pump.
Thanks,
Op

many of the heil doziers came with the rear mounted pump. where is your pump leak? if it is the input shaft , you can remove the cover and replace the chevron packing rings.

I think it would take some getting used to to be able to lift the blade only when the clutch is engaged.

i agree ,why did so many of them come with the rear pump ? it is like the first time trying to mow with a N series Ford that does not have live hyd. or live pto.

Walter,

The pump comes out of the back and does a 90 degree turn and goes up. the hoses come out of the top part. It is leaking just back of the 90. Im not sure if their is a weep whole on the bottom of it or not i didn't look at it when i looked at it before i bought it. I haven't got it home yet. It is in New York. Should have it here in a couple of weeks.  It is pretty cool it has a 2 tags on the hood that said it was sold from. One tag on either side of the hood. It was sold from New Jeresey orginally couldn't read what the name of the dealership was cause they had been painted over a few times but I could read they sold equipment for moving coal and agergate. The guy that he bought it from used it to dig a pond and parked in a shed where it sat for 10 years before he bought it for his sun to use to level some ground and dig a pound with on some property his son bought. Hopefully get some pictures up of it pretty soon. I have two pictures he gave me on it in the shed when he went and looked it when he bought it but im not sure how to post them on the board.

Thanks,

Hi Walter,

I finally got my dozer home. It arrived wed. I have been busy cutting off stretched track bolts and replacing them. I was looking at the pump yesturday. It looks like it has a pto unit and the pump is bolt onto the pto?? it looks like the seals are bad in side closest to the back of the dozer (seat area). I have a one day show i am attending tomorrow and will be able to provide blade model numbers and pump numbers tomorrow night. Any pictures or advice would be appriated. I can take pitures of leaking area and e-mail to you if need be.
Thank you,
Op

the rear type pump bolts to the same bolt circle that a pto unit would use and the lever on the trans. top is the same one used if you had a pto. see if the pump has a brass id tag on it. if your leak is on the input shaft some packing and a seal should cure your problerm as long as the shaft is not loose.as a general rule pumps and cylinders with packing are suppose to leak a small amount . the old tech. was more worried about dirt and water getting in than oil leaking out.  i wonder what they would of thought about the EPA.

Hi Walter,

In my hurry in trying to get it moved today i forgot to get the number off of the tag on the pump. I took it out to my farm and played around on it for 2 or 3 hours. Not sure home much power they should have but mine seemed a lil bit weak. I think im going to get new plugs, wires, all that good stuff for it soon and see how she does then. I have to adjust the steering bands and the clutch. I will try to run out by their in the mourning and get the numbers off the blade and pump. I also have a leak on the blade control lever and suggestions their?

Thanks,

the control shaft also has packing and a seal that can be replaced easily, just remove the lever and link ,then the bolts holding the rear piece on . the rings are a standard chevron packing as are the rings in the pump shaft which you should be able to obtain from a hydraulic or industrial supply store if there is one in your area. i only wanted you to look for the pump tag to be sure it is the original.i believe the tag will have heil stamped in it . a good tune up is always a good idea but you may be expecting too much out of it , although for there age and size they will do a lot.the blade is rather wide for the size of the crawler, especially with the hillside option.

I looked through my manual and found some seal numbers that I had written done for the pump and valve. the pump seal is 471224 {1.0x1.499x.250 },valve seals{2} 471442 {.50x.999x.250} national brand.check the dimensions with your shafts to be sure .the book does not show chevron packing in the valve but mine was was made for it and it is original .you should be able to get the packing by the shaft dia.

Hi Walter,

I went out and got all the numbers off the blade and pump. The blade is a Heil model HT 35, serial number is TB 3395, and ID number RFO 147 PL.
The pump number is AA 152.

Now i have more questions. I got the tractor id plate legible and the serial is 12C035. So that makes it a 1950 right.  My biggest  :D

Thanks,

Op

the change from cletrac to oliver on the rad. would have been 1951-1952
. since the radiators will interchange you might see an oliver radiator on an older model that should have been cletrac. yes, yours serial# is correct for 1950 .
