I just found out today about the death of my friend, and Chief Engineer at Cletrac and the Oliver Corporation in Cleveland, John Tomko.

John is probably one of the very last Cletrac employees who were in management. I was fortunate enough to correspond and visit with him several times over the last few years. I also visited with John many times with my late grandfather Howard van Driest over the years. He and John were very good friends. My Gramps was Experimental Engineer and John was his boss.

Below is a picture of us at the Oliver/Cletrac employee reunion in 1988. I'm closest to the foreground, with John next to me.

My gramps Howard van Driest was Experimental Engineer at Cletrac and Oliver Corporation. After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors.
