hey ROADRUNNER ,what happened ? I'm missing the rest of the story. Me and probly other would like to hear more! hope evrythings going well.

Funny you should ask. I have made some progress, but the project--as of today--just got put on hold. The reason is because the 5 speed in my old 86 Ranger is getting VERY noisy. The wx and my health has stopped me from trying to work on it, I'm getting too old and crippled to crawl around under it----which leads to "funny you should ask"

Dragged this home today--1400 bucks on Craigslist, a two post 7000 lb Challenger hoist. I"m planning on building a 2x6 rectangular tube base and make it freestand on the ground. THEN I'll have to yank the 5 speed out of the Ranger

So far as the engine swap, I haven't yet edited some pictures--I've got the mounts partly made, the engine sitting in the chassis. I spent considerable time trying to straighten the frame. I'll get some pics up soon

Good to hear from, ya . I understand about OLD and crawling around under stuff. that lift looks like it was a good investment, make me wish you was my neighbor lol. just letting you know your efferts are interesting,and not wasted. good luck I'll be watchin

IT'S IN THE AIR---- sorta. Got one set of legs done and the crosspieces made and installed. This stuff is made from heavy wall 2x6 tube, and it's all I can do to lift one piece. I'll make the other legs, then build 2x2 tube triangular braces from the outer ends of the legs to somewhere up (the top) of the columns.

I think before I built the triangular braces, I'll get the hydraulics/ electrics and cables installed and make sure it actually WORKS. I'd hate to spend a bunch more fabrication time only to discover that something important needs work.

On the ground, starting the cross pieces between the columns

One set of legs done,, and welded to one crosspiece. The horrid looking paint is the remains of "cold galvanize" (don't EVER buy that stuff) and some left--over "bumper guard" for my pickup. I'll have to pick up some more anti rust coating of some sort. I'm standing on the house, and planned to use the amateur radio tower as a winch point. Turns out that with jacking (handyman) and blocking, I was able to jack it up and finally "hand" tip the thing erect

I CAN DO STUFF AGAIN!!!!!

Got 'er up and running, if not detailed and painted.

Here's the ears I welded onto each carriage. After driving aboard, I slip a 2x2 heavy wall square tube under the car, and drop a 3/4 pin into each end. This ties each post together and prevents the weight from "leaning" the columns into each other. I may build an overhead truss later for the same reason. Doing so would allow using the overhead as a hoist, but would limit size of vehicles on lift

Below is the anchor points I added to the colums, triangular braces down to the legs. 2x2 heavy wall, about 10 ft long. 3/8 x3" strap

The bottom anchor for the 2x2 triangular braces. Legs are heavy wall 2x6 tube approx 10 ft to front and to rear

FINALLY "on the air"

Day before yesterday, got the pu on the hoist, pulled the bad 5 speed, and nearly got done installing the one out of "my wreck" Yesterday I finished it up, ran some errands, and changed the snow tires. Changed the oil/ filter in both the car and pu, all yesterday.

It's like having 15 years removed from my age. No longer must I writhe in agony under a filthy dirty, drippy POS to get some work done.

It occured to me today that I should be able to toss some material across the lift and use it as a work table, as well as raise the arms above the crawler if need be to hoist it above.

I've got a couple of garden tractors that need some attention, too

well 440 ,,you have been busy , I don't think I could move that fast to do all that in the time you did . that is great ,keep up the good work ! I pulled stumps and brush today ,nothing big cause I don't wanna break my oc3 . tested out the muck swamp too. then washed it.

440, This is a sugestion for the overhead truss, make it an arch and that should allow a taller vehicle capacity.

I'm contemplating just that, the question is, "just how high?" I haven't plans to own or twist wrenches on anything very large, but a standard size pu with a small camper might be in the mix. Also, it occurs to me that if I build an arch "in mind" I can also use it for a chain fall anchor---pulling engines, etc.

Right now, I have my garden tractor up on the thing!!

GAWD I wish I'd had this thing years ago.
