OC-3 Oil Filter Tube

Just noticed that in the manual for an OC-3 that there is supposed to be a short tube in the oil filter.  Wondering if it is really necessary because I don't have one.

Sorry about the blank posting!

I think the "tub" you are talking about makes the oil travel up to the top of the filter and then it pours down the filter and beeing cleaned. Without the tub the oil will not be filtered.
Am I wrong?

If I recall correctly, it's just a piece of 1/4" pipe with the top pinched off and a hole drilled crosswise. It most likely is designed so the oil doesn't drain back into the oil pan when the engine is shut off. I would replace it.

Mine has what looks like a 5/16 wooden dowell, could somebody please explain this? Also, where can I get a new filter?

The wooden dowl should I believe be removed before fitting, it only keeps the place clear for the pipe.  I have a couple of boxes of these filters wich have some surface rust although not all over which should work ok, they are plain black. mailto:sam@cletrac.co.uk">sam@cletrac.co.uk

I found the wood dowel in one of mine, with some Q&A here I used a piece of 1/4 inch fuel line, cut the end on an angle then pinched and soldered and drilled some holes in the tube, the stick is used to keep the hole open till installed. I did find some filters of the same mount with a paper filter, not sure of the number now, I think it was a wix or Napa 1105 or 1005 the last number was different

Wix makes NAPA filter along with other brands. Normally from Wix to NAPA they drop the first number which may  be a 5.

A lot of old Oliver Filters had the wooden stick. You throw them away> I need to look to see if that is a full flow or by pass set up.
