I am still having clutch problems with my W. It wont disengage. I tried to adjusted to it by the book but no luck. Does this clutch operate like a normal one?  Book says 1/2 inch between clutch friction plates,I have at least an inch. These plates are at back side clutch release bearing.Seems like alot of free play in peddle. Do I have to adjust clutch linkage,or keep adjusting clutch? Thanks Bill in CT. P.S maybe clutch is shot!

Hello Bill, I call this a pull clutch. When you push down on the clutch pedal, that pulls the shaft out of the clutch and flywheel, towards the back of the tractor. Did you spray WD in the adjusting bolt holes?

Bill Kycia

Hi Richard, Yes I did that as you suggested, and also tried to adjust.I have driven it a bunch also.I talk to Ray Zimmerman yesterday, and he thinks one of the friction disc has broken and a piece has fallen between the other one. That means I will have to pull clutch out.He also said I should adjust the extra peddle free play out, with the adjustable yoke on peddle cross shafts. Any other ideas? This tractor is dying to be driven.Cant keep jamming it in gear, and cant be safely operated with clutch that dosent disengage. Bill in CT>

Well Bill, it might be time to disassemble the clutch. I suggest to slide the engine forward on the frame, and tilt the back of the engine up. This will allow you to remove the clutch from the flywheel. You will probably only need to free up and clean all internal parts, and install the two new clutch linings. The linings free floating around the steel clutch disc.

Richard,Thanks for the advice.I will try to take out the free play this weekend as a last resort to see if that helps. If not this will become a winter project. Show season is almost over here in New England, maybe 4 left.I will justhave to take E 38 or K 20 thats all. Bill

Richard Borgaro

We will help you with the clutch project this winter. Can you post some photos of your K20 and E38.

Bill Kycia

Yes Richard, I will get pictures of all 3 on soon. My E-38 in on recent youtube video at 2016 Northeast Rockbusters show in  Plainfield CT.I think its at the 6or 7 min mark.Going to try to adjust cross shaft linkage tomorrow  Bill

Winter project turned into fall project.Took a week off from work, and decided to take the clutch apart on the W.What a mess! The clutch area inside the flywheel was packed with dirt, rust and all kinds of gook.Discs were broken and both rusted in place. The 3 fingers on the pressure platefrozen in the release position.  That's where all the free play came from.Ordered new linings from Landis. Will report on assembly.  Bill in CT>
