Found and bought an old Cletrac W last week. First I only saw the chassis, the owner knew nothing about it and did not even know where the engine, radiator, hood etc was so I was very lucky to find the engine, radiator and all the small stuff laying around in the barn. Owners father had begun an engine swap. Something is wrong with the Weidely engine but don“t know what yet. Tractor is complete except for a home made gas tank.
Here it is!

Looks great Erik! Should be a fun project.

My gramps Howard van Driest was Experimental Engineer at Cletrac and Oliver Corporation. After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors. Next step would be a parts book and operators manual for your Model W, sorry I called it an H on Facebook. Reproduction manuals are available on wait for originals on E-bay. Jensales.com is one possible outlet for repros.

Hello Eric, I looked closer at the photo and I noticed that your model W had steering levers. Can you take some closer photos of these levers?

Bill Kycia

I what I believe is an early H final drive unit ,because the sprockets are flared out on the edges. The front track idlers were round and were not sprocket type like aW.This unit too has had steering wheel removed and has whats left of a lever system.Unfortunately, its going to the scrap yard soon.Any takers?
