Is Hg's main springs different than the oc3 i have 4 from hg's and they seam to be smaller than the ones on the crawler  i'm working on the trac frames are the same need some help Harvey

Yes the spring is diffrent between HG and
OC-3 it is stronger and bigger on OC-3

I'm not certain this is an OC/Hg issue, though it may be.
There are two different springs shown in my book, and based on my own experience the stiffer springs were available before the OC-3.

According to my parts book there was a "standard" and a "heavy duty" spring available that covered all serial numbers of 31, 60, and 68.  
The 42 used the same springs (both standard and heavy) up to serial number 52GA471.  A different spring was used for later 42s.
The part numbers are as follows:
Standard 112 529
Heavy 115 208 (Assy)
The later 42s: 117 024
I see no heavy springs listed for the later 42s.

I know one of the springs is enclosed and one is an open coil. I think some of the loaders did not have any spring - just a solid piece in place of the spring - I am not certain of this. I know a lot of the larger Cletrac loaders and dozers did not have springs.

I checked the books again--both Parts and Instructions.  
Both the standard and heavy duty springs show a dust cover.  The cover for the HD seems more "robust" than the one on the standard.
However, I don't think the HG we had when I was a kid had dust covers and in fact in a number of the pictures in the manuals there are no dust covers on the springs.
Were the dust covers added at some point in time?  I can certainly imagine them becoming "optional" for a farmer after working on them, but the pictures in the manuals would not have under gone that type of "field modification".
