Steering band lining wear

I just got off the phone with my uncle regarding the lining and he said the correct lining definitely does not have any wire in it. I also talked with a brake relining place here locally - I think I have some new original lining that I'll show him and see if he can get it.

The problem with using the lining with wire in it isn't the wear on the drums so much, as where the wire goes when it wears down. It goes all through the whole transmission, the pump, the planetaries and the bearings.
