I am curious how many radiator hoses I am supposed to have?

When I bought my HG-68 with an IXK-3 engine, it has three hoses.

1) a big one on top that connects from the cylinder head jacket to the top of the radiator.

2) a big one on the bottom that connects the bottom of the radiator to a fitting block on the side of the engine block.

3) a small one (maybe 1/2-5/8") that connects from the fitting block down low up to a metal fitting placed in the middle of the top big hose.

there is also what looks like two other plugs on the fitting block.  This fitting block is mounted to the lower left of the engine (if you were sitting on the crawler).

I went to buy these special hoses from Zimmerman, but he says that it sounds like someone put in a bypass hose that is not needed.  He says I just need the top and bottom ones and I can plug off the other one.

Is this true?  Anybody have any idea what I am talking about?  Thanks in advance for any advice..
