CLETRAC DDH

I HAD JUST BOUGHT THIS DOZER AND CAN SOME ONE GIVE ME INFO ON IT.  IT SEEMS TO SKIP AND RUN VARY RICH WITH GRAY SMOKE.

Did you give it plenty of time to warm up? and did it run any smoother when there was load on the engine?
The BD tend to sound like there missing when they're at idle but smooth out when under load, I'm told if you fit a silencer they sound a lot smoother.  I don't know about the DD but it a Hercules engine the same as a BD's just bigger. My BD smookes a lot until it warms up then it runs pretty clean. Sam

Like Sam said, this is the nature of most of these Hercules diesels. I'm not personally familier with the DD, but the AD, BD and OC-12 all do the stumble and smoke think at idle. Under load they smooth right out. I don't know if they are actually missing, or just sound like it. A muffler does help the sound at least. I think they are worse with the Roosa Master distributor pump and better with the Bosch inline pump.

They do this when new, so it's not really anything to worry about.

Thanks for your help on my cleatrac DDH.  As you can see I am new with cletrac stuff.  the man i got this from said it uses some water but I don't see it leaking out. he said his son pulled the heads off to check the valves and did'nt put new headgaskets on and he thinks that mite be the problem. can i get nwe head gaskets and motor part for this if so can some one refer me some place

Just for the fun of it check your U2U box and I will send you a check list on your engine before you tear it down. I would check some adjustments and preliminary checks on the fuel system.

i have a dd cletrac that i use occasionally and it starts quite easily, but like most others runs roughly and smoky when cold, but when using it runs quite clean with no stumble noticeable. I would be very surprised if the head gasket was leaking water as they do not run a pressurised cooling system, so the pressure is so low that there is little chance of any leakage. the head gaskets are also one piece copper gaskets, so if not cracked or otherwise damaged they should be able to be re-used with an appropriate sealer. I use loctite 510 gasket sealer and have not had any problems with leaky head gaskets. on the other hand however I have found several water leaks on DRXB diesels , one was a cracked liner and block on the no 6 cylinder, due (i think) to running with insufficient water in the motor, and another common one is from the water pump seal, which when worn will often drip . Take a good look at the radiator also as they will often leak from flexing or other damage, and i have repaired many a leak in the past decade. I have 2 of these dozers running, one with a muffler and one without (straight pipe) and the one with the muffler definately sounds smoother and the rough stumble when cold is somewhat smoothed out. hope this is of some help, pete
