I've got the compression problem licked, it was just things stuck, but running it and oil in the cylinders seemed to fix that problem. But now it gets hot  did these engines have a thermostat?  With it running I don't see any water moveing so I think its either the water pump or the thermostat.  Help

The impeller rarely, if ever, falls off the water pump shaft, if it's turning, it's pumping. Pump failure is usually leaking seals or rusted/frozen bearings (the new seals from Zimmerman are better than the old ceramic ones).
Thermostat failure is usually being stuck shut; when the element fails, they won't open. Not exactly fail-safe, destroys lots of automobile engines.

The thermostat is in the top water elbow on top of the head. It is bolted in with the elbow.

Well if that is where it is there isn't one in it so I guess I have some other problem. May have the rotor timeing off since its a gear to gear drive on the rotor
