My OC-3 dozer has an interesting bug. It quits under load when pushing uphill - a 20 degree slope.

No missing, spluttering or other symptom - just quits like I pulled the stop button. Restarts as soon as I can get to the starter button. Backs down, works ok on the level. Occasionally will push a blade full up the slope after working on the level for a bit, but quits on the second push.

I've just tuned up the mag - new points and condenser, lots of fire on the bench, and fired right up after installing it. Started to go to work, and now this!

Any thoughts?

I'd take a guess at fuel flow somewhere along the system.

Maybe the governor needs adjusting.

Since gas outlet is towards the rear of the gas tank, might there be a pocket of water in there? I had same thing going downhill in an OC4, where outlet is at the front. Once I drained everything including water out of tank, it was fine.

Sounds like its a fuel delivery problem. Try unscrewing the fuel line from the carb when you have the tractor at that angle and see if you have any gas flowing. I would also check the float inside the carb, if the level is wrong it could be shutting the fuel off.

Thanks, gents.

It was indeed a fuel restriction - the hole on top of the sediment bowl going up into the tank was nearly completely plugged with wood fragments.

Probably fall-off from checking fuel level with odd sticks over the years. The tank, sediment bowl and and carb were clean otherwise.
