PTO Belt Pulley Shaft

Has anyone ever removed the belt pulley shaft from their pto and plugged the hole?

That shaft meshes with the helical back of the main gear, no? If removed, I'm sure the PTO will still turn just fine, if that's what you mean.
I've seen that shaft cut-off flush with the case, on models with a 3PH for example.
