My 53 oc3 with a marvel carb has just had a rebuild kit put in by a mechanic but isn't running well. Even when warmed up it won't run without the choke about 1/2 way out. Is this just adjustment or something more serious? Any help appreciated. Canada Bob

How well did the mechanic clean out the carb before he put the kit in it? Was it boiled out or soaked in acetone and blown out? It will need adjusting to run right.

Be sure you have good fuel supply to the carb. Besides that, those Marvels are about as simple as a carburetor can be. I usually take a pump oil can with light oil or diesel fuel and pump it through all the openings to be sure they are clear.  Assuming everything is clear, you might just have to open  the fuel setting a turn or so.

Evidently  it wasn't cleaned well as the float is sticking as well and no amount of adjustment makes any difference. Thanks for the help. Canada Bob

If the float is sticking, it might be bent, rubbing somewhere it shouldn't. Simple enough to fix. Setting the float level is something you should do as well. Some people take carburetors apart to "rebuild' them and end up making them worse if they don't know what they are doing.  I just found a good one, I bought an OC-12 that the guy said wouldn't run right. Told me he sent the carb out to be rebuilt, by some expert. When I took it apart I found the float was coated with gas tank sealer and it was glued to the side of the bowl.

Cork float Doug? We used to coat them with shellac, but alcohol gasoline would probably eat that up. I think gas tank sealer would be too heavy for the float to work right. Maybe not if put on thin.

Nope,, brass float. Maybe he thought the float was leaking.
