trying to find serial number

hey guys I luck in to a nice hg68 I think but am having trouble finding a serial number.All the specs. point to a hg68 so I'm asumming thats what i have.Found numbers on the rear axle drive housing ,but i think they are just metal stamps any help would be very appreciated! THANKS

According to a service bulletin I have the HG models had a problem loosing their serial number tags. That was why they were moved to the bellhousing. Now look on the left side of the engine block near the top for a machined pad. The Hercules engine model and serial number are stamped there. All Hg models have some form of a Hercules IX engine. The very early ones are an IXA. The majority are IXK and from early 1950 untill the Hg became the OC-3 in 51 they will have an IXB engine. Major differences in each model. The bore is 0.125 larger than the model it replaced. Hope this helps a little.

thanks for the info. John . ,but it seems that its not possible for me to go that route either since the motor has been replace with a 4cyl. G.M. engine.Is there any other ways to tell what  year and model crawler i have?

Model Yes, Year no unless it is a 1939. Check your U2U box.
