hood

I have a oc3 with a cutout on the right side of the hood just behind the side shield at the top it's 3"wide and 16 1/2" long is there some kind of a small panel that goes there it look's like it was cut out at the factory the cutout is just below the top rib that goes all the way around the hood does any one know about this thing if you do please let me know thank's  HH:D

I have never seen a picture of a hood like this one i'm quite sure this was done at the factory mabe someone will come with the ans. the regular shade tree mach. didnt do this if he did he shouldnt be out of work

     I have never seen a hood with a factory cutout, but I have seen many that have been cut out by distraught owners trying to change their spark plugs, as Crawler boy mentions. Some I have seen are neatly done, while most are hacked.

Ours was cut with a torch and is pretty ragged.  I was thinking about either trimming ot so it looks better or repairing it, but the beading would be difficult to replicate.  Any ideas?

Terry,
     If you can find a donor hood with good ribbing, you can cut out the section that you need, and weld it into your hood to match. Problem I have had is most of my donor hoods are cut also, and do not have enough ribbing left to make the repair.

Thanks, Eric.  I will keep my eyes open for one that has been replace by a better one, and hopefully it will have 18 inches or so of ribs left.

Mine is a '56 Oc3 with the hood cut out just as discribed. It sure looks factory to me. Wish I could find a reproduction pannel for it.

Thanks philip for the info. i think my oc3 is a 56 also the casting in the bellhousing is 56 the id shield is gone i don't know for sure. my cut out in the hood sure looks like a factory job. it has a small fasner on the side panel at the top with a hole in the panel at the other end it has a small piece of metal that is welded to the hood for the back of the piece that is missing to  fit up against with a screw hole in it i,m quite sure it came from the factory this way.it might not even be a oc3 do you have id tag on your,s? i know i tried to put a final drive housing and all its parts as one unit off of another i think oc3 and it wouldn,t fit the holes were to small in the housing to bolt up to the trans/rearend housing i,m glad to hear that someone else has a hood like mine so if i hear of any thing i,ll let you know keep in tuch thanks HH

Hi everyone Erik your hood cutout is  larger than the one in my hood  mine is 3 " x 16 1/2 or about that i need the section that has the rib,s on it do you have any spare ribs to spare? i like the pictures your gage panel is like mine on the oc3
