Does anybody know the type of magneto that should be fitted to a HG- getting information over here in the UK is difficult. Does anyone have the full specification, otherwise what mag do other HG owners have?

I have a Wico magneto in mine...I think most HG's and OC-3's had this type.

I agree with Tom, Most did have the Wico.
Occasionally though the FairBanks was substituded.
I had one on my HG when I bought it.
I am sure there are other makes that will work to.
And don't forget about the distrubtors that replaced some mags and were mounted in the same location.
No reason why you could not get these to work also.
Good Luck,

I also have a Wico on my HG and on my OC3 but on the oc3 the last ouner took out the mag, drilled a hole in the cap, mounted a coil ran a wire from the kill post on the mag and hot wire to a switch and it seams to run good, it's not my way of doing things but will do for now.

An Eiseman is a better mag than a Wico if you can find one. My General has one of theirs. Not sure the model though.
My gramps Howard van Driest was Experimental Engineer at Cletrac and Oliver Corporation. After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors.
