manifold studs

I have an HG-68 with an IXK3 engine.

when putting new manifold studs should I try to use silicone sealant on the threads or would something more thin like a threadlocker be better?  I am thinking a low strength thread locker might seal better in such a tight space than an RTV sealant.  

These studs go right into the water jacket.

on the intake silocone will work well but exhust side it won't unless you use Hi temp

The crazy thing with the IXK engines and I imagine all the IX engines, is that there is a one piece intake/exhaust manifold.

The thing mounts to the side of the inline 4 cylinder engine.  The carb mounts to the bottom of it and exhaust pipe goes straight up.

At work we use heat to break down the thread locker when we take stuff apart. but I don't think this will get that hot.  Each stud is between an intake passage and an exhaust passage, and the end that I am gluing screws into the block and right into the water jacket.  

hmm.. either way is cheap.  One way or the other it is bound to work.

And this engine doesn't use a pressurized cooling system like a car or truck engine.  With auto engines, the coolant is always trying to find a way out through the smallest cracks.  :D

I would use anti-seize on the threads and a tiny smear of high temp silicone on the gaskets. Make sure your manifold is perfectly flat. Vacuum leaks are probably the biggest problem in this assembly.
